Schumag Plant Visit of the Project Module Course

The project module course visited the Schumag plant yesterday for a tour of the production facilities of the company and a meet and greet with its CEO and the technical director. The students gained practical insight in an automotive supplier therewith, in frame of the course. We are very thankful to Schumag to offer our students this experience.

Article on the Book featured in China Car Times Weekly

An article on the book 'Internationalization of Chinese Automobile Companies' was featured in China Car Times Weekly as well as on their website. Over 2,400 people mainly in the Chinese automobile industry are reached through the newsletter. The article is giving insights in the findings of the book and can be found under www.chinacartimes.com.

Update: The article was read some 11,200 times in the first 24 hours being online. In addition the article has been taken by the Carlovers Magazine as a featured post (very Chinese attitute :-) ).

Presentations on the internationalization of Chinese Automobile Companies

The topic ‘Chinese OEMs on the jump to Europe’ (‘Chinesische OEMs auf dem Sprung nach Europa’) has been presented at the 13th Automobil Forum in Graz on 20/10/2011 to automobile managers and experts. Basing on the recently published book ‘Internationalization of Chinese Automobile Companies’, the presentation gave deeper insight from the company-neutral position of the CIAM. For this and the didactically excellent performance of Dr. Garnet Kasperk the feedback was throughout positive.An article about the presentation can be found under www.automobil-produktion.de

A presentation on the ‘Chinese Automobile Market & Industry’ has been given on 20/09/2011 at RWTH Aachen Summer School. Ralf Drauz was one of the speakers giving insight to over 30 PhD and Master Students from 5 countries. A consecutive panel discussion followed with the topic ‘125 years of automobiles – what will be their future mobility concepts’. This was seen as very fruitful to the overall course as about a third of the participants had a Chinese background.

Projekt Module 'Strategy development of a medium-sized automotive supplier'

The Project Module for Winter Term 2011/2012 has changed. A regional automotive supplier is the sponsor of this term's Project Module 'Strategieentwicklung eines Mittelständischen Automobilzulieferers'.

After the first lectures and distribution of teamwork on topics related to strategy development, an on-site visit will give the students the exciting opportunity to get an impression of the production facilities and meet the management team of the company.

Registration will be open via Campus from 01/10/2011, 12:00 o'clock.

China has been attracting considerable attention in its role as the fastest growing automobile market in the world. The media worldwide have been full of reports on the impressive sales figures being achieved by Western carmakers in the Chinese market.

However, as a result of Chinese automobile companies having recently implemented high-profile international acquisitions, the spotlight of attention is now shifting away from China as the world’s largest automotive market towards a focus on China’s own automobile companies in their transition to becoming tomorrow’s global competitors. To date, however, knowledge of the various internationalization approaches of Chinese OEMs has been limited. This book helps to fill that gap by delivering a structured analysis of the twelve major Chinese automotive companies with respect to their cross-border activities and providing an insight into the internationalization of the Chinese automobile value chain.

The Chinese government-driven strategy of linking Chinese automobile companies to global value chains by way of acquisitions and strategic alliances is examined in detail, a knowledge of underlying strategies and motives being pivotal to an assessment of future competitive structures in the global automobile industry.

Conference presentations on 'Future Trends in Mobility'

The CIAM participated with 2 speaches at the '3. Wissenschaftsforum Moilität' in Duisburg on 07/07/2011.

Dr. Garnet Kasperk presented 'Cooperation strategies of autmobile manufacturers along the newly aligning value chain'. Ralf Drauz talked about 'Mixing Push & Pull to survive in China: Value Stream Design in an Automotive Case'.

M-Way commissions e-Mobility study

New Center opens in the Faculty of Business and Economics

The Center for Internationale Automobile Management (CIAM) was established in October 2010. "By combining theoretical findings and practical insights, we enable automobile companies to compete internationally".

On behalf of the CIAM's Director, Dr. Garnet Kasperk, we proudly announce the forthcoming publication of the book "Internationalization of Chinese Automobile Companies". The book will be available in Spring 2011.

The CIAM will soon be bringing out its own papers series entitled "International Automobile Managment Working Papers", which will include further relevant articles.

Long-standing relationships exist with renowned universites of technology in various Asian, Eastern Euopean, and Latin American countries.

Close cooperations with automobile expert from the Tsinghua and Tongji Universities in China, King Mongkut's Insitute of Technology Ladkrab in Thailand, the University of Malaysia, and from the National University of Singapore enable an active exchange of both ideas and PhD students.

The representative offices of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) are providing support for the CIAM's activities in China, Russia, Brazil, and India.

Research project partners at master and postgraduate levels are Magna, BMW, Continental, VW and Audi, Daimler, Bosch, BorgWarner, and several other international corporations.
